Max was officially released from the Cardiac ICU today!!! Unfortunately there are no beds available in the Step Down unit so we are stuck here until a bed opens up. We did get a more private room last night though. We were stuck right in front of the nurse's station in an open bay for the entire first week. We are tucked back in a quiet corner now.
Max continues to progress. He is still receiving breast milk from the feeding tube. They have increased the amount he is receiving. It is now equal to what he was eating at home. We started giving him a little breast milk in a bottle yesterday. We have a swallow study scheduled for tomorrow morning. Until we can make sure that he is not aspirating on the milk, we are only allowed to give him small amounts from the bottle. We had issues with him choking on milk prior to the surgery so they want to watch him eat to see what is going on. It could be something as simple as needing to thicken the milk for him. It also could be something more serious that was contributing to his lung issues.
Other than that, we are just enjoying holding him and watching him return to his normal non-sedated self. He is such a good baby!
I forgot the camera tonight, but I will take new pictures of him tomorrow. He definitely looks like he has been through the ringer.
Congrats on hitting another milestone. I hope Max keeps making such incredible progress!
