Max's ability to amaze us continues to be on display throughout today. Just as the medical team has been telling us, Max is the one in charge! He has decided that enough is enough and it may be time for him to start taking charge. He was able to eliminate 2 of the medications, lower his morphine levels, lower the ventilator requirement by almost 1/2, lower the Nitrus Oxide requirement, started eating breastmilk (through a feeding tube), had his catheter removed so he could try to pee (couldn't quite make it, so they reinserted it later), held a solid blood pressure all day, held a solid oxygen level all day, and all in all was a pretty boring patient - which is all anyone wants!
The latest crystal ball.....if Max continues on this path, they think he will probably be able to come off the ventilator and nitrus oxide machines on Monday.....and he will be off a couple more of the medications. If that happens, we will finally be able to hold him...so you can imagine mom's pep talks to get him motivated!
Sleep is a little easier to come by for mom and dad and we have been able to sneak away to spend some time with Maya. She asks about Max and says "I want to kiss his heart!" She can't wait to see her little brother, and hopefully by next week we can make that happen. It's amazing how kids have a feeling about what is going on.
Again - thanks for the well wishes and support, we will update again tomorrow.
